This is the CALL TO ACTION regarding New Mexico's proposed gang enhancement bills that we have been talking about. I have attached a copy of the letter that I will be sending for you to use as an example, change the wording as you see fit and of course make sure that you put your name, address, voter ID#, etc.

For this Call To Action everyone is free to choose whether you contact the Senators by email or by US Postal Service. This is to ensure that everyone can participate, whether they have access to the internet or not. Defenders are responsible for making sure that all club members are able to participate. If letters go out by USPS make sure they are signed (blue ink please) and that the sender's contact information is readable.

These bills are scheduled to be heard by the Senate Public Relations Committee as well as the Senate Judiciary Committee. Rather than contact every member of these committees I want you to target the Chair and Vice Chair of both Committees in addition to your Senator from your District.

Senate Judiciary Committee:
Cisco McSorley, Chair
cisco.mcsorley@nmlegis.gov
Richard C. Martinez, Vice Chair
richard.martinez@nmlegis.gov

Senate Public Affairs Committee:
Dede Feldman, Chair
dede.feldman@nmlegis.gov
Tim Eichenberg, Vice Chair
tim.eichenberg@nmlegis.gov

To find out who the Senator is for your district as well as their contact info go to www.legis.state.nm.us click on "Members", then "Find Your Legislator", then "Senate", then "Search by Name, District of Zip Code"

If you choose to send letters by USPS they should be addressed as follows:
The Honorable (First and Last Name)
New Mexico Senate
State Capitol, Room 411
Santa Fe, NM 87501

All Defenders need to report the number of letters sent either to myself or to your Lt. Commander by next Tues. Jan. 26. You can do so either by phone or email. In addition we will again need copies of all letters for our archives, please send those to me by Feb. 3.

Let's make sure our legislators know how we, our friends and our families feel.

Respect,
Patty Berry
NM Commander, US Defenders
