Greetings Defenders, I want to thank all of you for your response regarding the two Senate gang bills. Our letters make an impact. Our legislators are looking at these bills as a way to combat the violent drug cartels, but they are not looking beyond to the effect that these bills would have on the constitutional rights of their constituants. All that being said, we now have three new bills to fight in Santa Fe. Three new gang bills were introduced in the House of Representatives last week. They are HB174, HB194 and HB195 which I have attached. I have also attached a revised copy of the letter that we sent to the Senators. We are targeting the Chair and Vice Chair of both the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee as well as your Representative from your district. House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee: Gail Chasey, Chair gailchasey@msn.com Antonio "Moe" Maestas, Vice Chair rep16@moejustice.com House Judiciary Committee Al Park, Chair alpark.nm@gmail.com Joseph Cervantes, Vice Chair cervanteslaw@zianet.com To find out who the Representative is for your district and how to contact them go to www.legis.state.nm.us click on "members", then "find your legislator", then "house", then "search by name, district or zip code". If you chose to send letters they should be addressed as follows: The Honorable (first & last name) New Mexico House of Representatives State Capitol, Room 411 Santa Fe, NM 87501 Again, I will need copies of your correspondence for our records. We will be monitoring all of these bills and trying to get people to the committee meetings to protest in person. Let me know if you are interested in attending any meetings in Santa Fe so we can let you know a.s.a.p. when a bill is scheduled to be heard in committee. Things can change quickly in Santa Fe. Our collective voice must continue to be heard. Now it is time to let the House of Representatives know how we feel, just like we did for the Senate. Our rights are being attacked from another side, we must continue to fight back. Respects, Patty Berry NM Commander, US Defenders 505-934-1548 924 Coal SW Albuquerque, NM 87102 |
